This book is so multi-faceted. It grabs you from the first chapter and pulls you in.
We meet Clara Presley in Vegas where she is completely drunk and almost falls into the pool. She's a self-help author with an eating disorder, an alcohol problem and a mouth like a truck driver.
She's rescued by John Carrington, a British talk show host with an impecable wardrobe and vocabulary. The banter between the 2 is first class while she's pushing his buttons and eventually seduces him. In a turn of the tables, she leaves him and ignores him for months.
She ends up going to England for a contractual interview with him. The interview is rained out and she ends up at his house. The chemistry between the 2 of them and the emotional tug of war simply gets hotter with each meeting.
John is determined he loves Clara and wants to be with her. Clara is uncertain at best. The physical attraction is there, but she does feel some sense of control coming from them.
John is an experienced lover, and that's clearly described in the book.
It's also a big part of Clara's attraction to him.
John is a psychologist, and is analyzing Clara and manipulating her. Clara is a wild card. It's a crazy relationship all around.
There are so many great ancillary character in the book: Weird Phil from the 37 floor of Clara's building, Tiffany who she meets on the plane to England, Rebecca her therapist (and does she ever need a therapist).
This book was unlike anything I've read before which was part of the attraction for me.
It is the first book of a series, but there are no cliff hangers so you wouldn't need to continue the series. I however, absolutely will.
